Fast forward another year, and Vango have added Bamboo furniture to their range, we love the way it looks, and are about to get our hands on the Outwell Padres XL unit shown below, so we thought we’d highlight some of our favourite pieces.

Llyn Gwynant Campsite in Snowdonia, North Wales Review

Llyn Gwynant campsite in Snowdonia

Where did we stay?

Llyn Gwynant Campsite, Nant Gwynant, Caernarfon, Gwynedd LL55 4NW

Need to know

  • £9 – £11 pp/pn, reduced prices for kids
  • Hot showers
  • On site pizzeria
  • Flat grass pitches
  • Limited number of pitches available with EHU
  • Dog friendly
  • Stunning lakeside location
  • 6m minimum space to be kept between tents from different groups
  • Small campfires allowed, using provided fireboxes and wood purchased on site
  • No music or TVs allowed
  • Open all year round

Visit the Llyn Gwynant Campsite Website

llyn-gwynant-snowdon-campsite-review-01

Our visit

Friday 16th September 2016 – Sunday 18th September 2016

Campsite facilities

On arrival first impressions are good, and as you turn off the main road signs to the reception area are clear and easy to follow. Prices start at £9 per adult per night, and considering the facilities and how well kept the site is, I’d say that’s fair value for money.

Llyn Gwanant Campsite in Snowdonia

The entrance to the website

The first big thing that hits you on arrival at the campsite is the sense of seclusion. The site is described on their website as a campsite for nature lovers, and we’d definitely agree. The site really does supply you with a ‘wow’ moment as you get out of the car and look up to see that you’re surrounded by water on two sides with towering hills and mountains all around.

Tents pitched at the campsite

To give you a sense of scale, the tent on the left is a 6m bell and on the right, a 5m Lotus Belle tent, both dwarfed by the surrounding hills!

I always love camping near water, and as well as the stunning scenery, I’d say that one of the big benefits of this campsite is the fact that it sits next to a river and a good sized lake, ideal for non-motorised watersports, in fact, kayaks can be hired from the campsite if you fancy taking to the water.

The jetty where kayaks and canoes can be hired on-site.

There are a number of different fields you can camp in, though as was the case during our visit, some areas are blocked off for large group bookings. It’s also worth pointing out that there are designated car parks, making it necessary to carry your camping gear from the car to wherever you want to pitch; worth considering if you are a family camper or glamper with lots of gear!

We really like it when campsites encourage the use of open fires; there’s nothing quite like sitting around in the evening with a roaring fire and chatting with friends. It was nice to see firebxes dotted around the campsite, though oddly, wood for burning must be purchased from the on-site shop, their rules dictating wood should not be brought with you.

Pitched up beside the river

Location wise, this campsite is hard to beat. It’s very close to the lovely village of Beddgelert and is perfectly located for those wanting to climb Snowdon, or generally explore Snowdonia. The reason for our own visit was a hike to the top of Snowdon with the Outdoor Bloggers group, and the starting point for our walk was just a 10 minute drive away from the campsite.

On site stone-backed pizza

On the second day after our long walk, we got back to the campsite and had a hot shower and on the way back from the shower block, we stopped at Janes Pizza (shown above) and enjoyed a delicious freshly baked pizza back in the tent.

Another one of the camping fileds

The campsite was virtually empty when we were there, which isn’t surprising given it was late autumn; the drop in temperature keeping all but the hardiest of campers away. We’d absolutely love to go back again and are planning a return in Spring, however do bear in mind that they don’t take bookings unless you are part of a large group.

Summary.

Llyn Gwynant is a wonderfully picturesque campsite that will take your breath away, and it’s got a lovely and laid back feel. We are usually put off by any site that dictates no music, but I guess the point is to ensure people don’t play music so loud that they could potentially disturb other campers. The location is truly stunning, and we loved that if you have your own kayak you can easily use it here.

We also loved the quality of the fresh on-site pizzas and we especially liked the fact that fireboxes were supplied to allow for campfires. It’s a great site to choose for anyone who wants to camp and hike up Snowdon and with the site also allowing group bookings, it’s ideal for larger get-togethers too.

Llyn Gwynant is a beautiful campsite in Snowdonia and we look forward to returning there soon!

Make A DIY Bird Feeder Ready For The Big Garden Birdwatch 2017

We’ve received our survey packs for the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch 2017. We’ve washed out all of our feeders, bought a couple of others and have restocked with a variety of different feeds to try and attract as many different birds as we can to our little garden.

If you’d like to take part, but don’t already have a bird feeder, why not try making your own DIY bird feeder? It’s super easy to do, and incredibly satisfying too and something you can do yourself or get the kids involved in.
