Arctic Monsoon Down Mummy Sleeping Bag Review

At first look the pack size is extremely small, and it’s very light too, making it ideal for backpacking. To be honest, on first use, I did find the feel of the fabric a bit off putting, though to be honest, I’ve only ever used entry level sleeping bags before, so this kind of fabric could be the norm.

I’m just under 6′ and the bag was plenty big enough, with the usual toggle around the head to pull it in tight around the face. I’ve been using it to camp in the UK during summer, so as yet haven’t tested it out during a cold night, and given how warm it kept me (actually, I was a bit too hot and had to unzip the bag), I’m looking forward to testing it out in colder temperatures during autumn and winter camping trips.

Pro’s

  • Compact for a down filled sleeping bag. I was expecting it to be bigger when packed down, it packs down smaller than my existing synthetic one, without compromising on size of the actual bag itself.
  • It does keep you very warm, in fact I got too hot on the 1st night I used it, I ended up sleeping with the zip open.
  • The bag is plenty big enough I’m a tall guy but I still had plenty of room, I’ve had other bags where once I was in and zipped in I felt trapped. Not with this one, I even had foot wiggling room.
  • The pocket on the side was useful for stowing my phone inside.

Cons

  • The first time I unpacked the sleeping bag, I accidentally took the top off of the bag, but it’s easily reattached.
  • Too warm for summer use.

The verdict

This is going to get some serious use over the coming months as I love how small and light it is, and for autumn and winter camping trips when the temperature drops down low and into minus figures, this bag is ideal. Perfect for backpacking, this is a superb sleeping bag, and ideal for camping during the colder months.
