6 Reasons To Love Camping in Autumn

Autumn is my very favourite season, and in Autumn 2015 we were blessed with glorious sunshine, making it perfect for spending more time than usual in the great outdoors. I used to think that camping was strictly a summer activity, but over the last few years, I’ve done more camping than ever in early spring, autumn and even in the height of winter, and there are plenty of good reasons to love camping at this time of year.

The thought of being cold will undoubtedly put a lot of people off, and as someone who tends to feel the cold quite acutely, my new found love of cold-weather camping here in the UK has come as a bit of a surprise!

Go Outdoors

I’ve written lots of tips in the past about how to stay warm when camping, and I’m a big fan of the Heat Holders range of clothing too, but Autumn camping doesn’t have to be a cold and miserable experience. Staying warm and dry is definitely the key to enjoying cold weather camping, but here are some reason why I really do think Autumn is the perfect time to get your tent out.

6 Reasons To Love Camping in Autumn

  1. The tree’s look truly stunning at this time of year and make for some beautiful photographs.
  2. The air is crisp and clean, and on a bright sunny day, you’ll get a much needed top up of your vitamin D levels as the nights start to draw in.
  3. Time it right, and autumn is a brilliant for spotting fungi and for foraging wild berries (see my photographs below).
  4. Creating a warm, snuggly haven inside your tent is immensely satisfying – you can turn your tent into something akin to a grown-up den.
  5. Campsites are quiet at this time of year; so no matter where you camp, you’ll be guaranteed peace and tranquility.
  6. Walking and generally spending time being active in the outdoors in Autumn is a joy. You don’t get hot and sticky like you do in the summer, and yet it’s still mild enough not to need lots of layers.

What is your favourite time of year for camping? Do you agree that Autumn is the ideal season for camping? Let us know in the comments below!
