Andrewshayes camping Devon - Onsite plenty of space

What we thought

From the moment we arrived everyone was helpful, friendly and informative and we both felt it was a really family-friendly site. On arrival we found that check in was quick and easy, and although the site itself is sloped, the pitches are leveled off and beautifully flat.

Our pitch with EHU had plenty of space and was close to the warm, immaculate shower, toilet and washing up block, which had plenty of hot water (even at 1.30 in the morning!) We were in amongst other camping pitches and permanently pitched.  There are more secluded pitches with EHU in the Summer Orchard area; the open grassy area in the middle, would also be great for kids to play in, and also would make a perfect area if you were going with a group. We went and had a look at the Glamping pods, which are cosy, with fantastic views across the fields.

We were loaned an extension cable for the EHU, and there are plenty of other extras should you need them from the reasonably priced onsite shop, selling food, snacks and camping sundries. There is a very well stocked information room with something for all ages and covering a wide geographic area. One of the staff helped me to pick out things that were nearby as we were only there for a short stay.  There is also a selection of board games, and a book exchange for rainy days.

We were right next to the play park, which was spotless and had enough for most ages to play on. The boys (four and six) were desperate to go and play while we set up the tent, which worked very well. The kids also loved the covered, heated swimming pool, which also had a welcoming atmosphere and was spotless, with chairs and tables, sun loungers and a shower and toilets. There is a small indoor toddler soft play area, which was a bit young for us, but looked great fun, and a games room with a selection of fruit machines, and video games all very inexpensive to play.

The onsite bar and takeaway were a great hit, serving burgers, fish and chips, fresh made pizza, as well as having a steak night – it is worth asking for the twice-cooked chips, as they were fantastic! We ate both at the outside tables, and inside, and it was spotless, and the staff went above and beyond to help.

Out and about in the local area

We visited a few local attractions, though there were plenty of others that we just did not get time for!

We thought that the Seaton coastline was great for rockpooling, collecting pretty stones and fossil hunting, and Seaton Jurassic provided entertainment, but needed longer than the hour and a half we left for it.

Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium is small, but perfect for children the age of ours, you can hand-feed specially trained grey mullet (which was a real highlight of the whole holiday), hold a starfish, meet a large crab, find out about local marine life and maritime history.

If you’re heading into In Lyme Regis we can recommend hunting out Frank and Beans Geletaria, the ice cream was amazing!

Pecorama is a wonderful tourist attraction nearby, with a ride on steam train, beautifully appointed gardens, adventure playgrounds for children of all ages, indoor soft play, crazy golf, trails to follow, and a great range of options for food. We opted for tea and scones in the beautiful Orion Pullman (advertised as over 12’s only, but well behaved children are allowed!), followed later by BBQ at The Whistle Stop.

The food in the Garden Restaurant looked lovely too! We thoroughly enjoyed finding the secret garden, and a round of crazy golf, and the view from the steam train was amazing. We ran out of time to go to the Model Railway exhibition, or shop as the site is on a pretty steep slope and we had thoroughly exhausted the boys. Do plan to spend a full day here, or you will miss out!

Verdict

This is a super friendly camping and caravan site, in a lovely part of Devon that offers a great range of options from grass tent pitches through to glamping accommodation. We felt there was something for everyone and had a wonderful stay – we’d highly recommend this holiday park – I don’t think any of us were really ready to leave!

Although it didn’t bother me, my other half was aware of the noise from the main road running near the site. The website does make it clear that the onsite WiFi is slow (it is a rural location), and we found it intermittent at best from our pitch, although there were other places onsite where it is better.

Whether you are camping with a family, as a couple, or with a group this site has something to offer, and the cleanliness really is exceptional.

A big thank you to Andrewshayes Camping and Caravan Park who invited us to stay.
