What did we think?

This 3 piece cook set comes complete with 2 lids, (1 of which fits both the larger sauce pan and the frying pan), along with it’s own little carry bag. The first thing I noticed was the quality feel of the pans, which compared to the cheaper set I purchased last year immediately felt sturdier. The pans are a great size too, ideal for family campers and those who like to cook properly when they are camping.

Although the pans looked great, I was initially a bit unsure about the lids, which are made from PP (polymer plastic), so I wasn’t convinced that they’d stand up to heat, but they performed well, and the holes in the lid proved useful when draining things like rice and pasta.

The verdict

The similar, smaller camping cook set I purchased last year was by Vango. On my first use of the frying pan, I was disappointed that it warped out of shape and discoloured. In fairness there was a significant price difference between this and the Vango cook set, but as is so often the case, it would seem that you get what you pay for, and in the case of the Robens Colony Cook Set, you are paying for quality.

Although we’ve only used the set on two camping trips so far I’m very happy with the performance. Size wise the set is ideal for making good sized meals for a family of 4 and I’m looking forward to many years of use!

I’ll update this post again to give you a longer term verdict in a few months time.

Thank you to Robens who sent us the Colony Cook Set to test.
